The staff who work at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center know the importance of donating
blood and platelets, they see patients everyday that receive blood products to survive.
Florida Blood Services (FBS) recently helped celebrate Moffitt’s accomplishments for 2009.
From January 2009 to December 2009, Moffitt employees and volunteers donated 1,602 units of
blood and blood products. They donated 531 more units in 2009 than in 2008 and potentially
helped save 4,806 lives. Andrea Mathews is the chairperson for Moffitt and she is in charge
of organizing the blood drives. She also receives help from a committee of 25 made up of
many different employees throughout Moffitt. She is always encouraging people to sign up
to give the gift of life and has increased Moffitt’s donations every year.

President of Donor Systems for FBS. "It’s great to have an organization that cares so much
about the patients they serve. From the top level on down, their mission is to help
patients and their families in anyway that they can."
FBS would like to thank the employees at Moffitt Cancer Center for allowing us to hold blood
drives and for their dedication to saving lives.
